"That Uhh, 7:30 Show Sucked"

The Stage - a replica of Seth's apartment

I didn't say this.  I am quoting Seth Romatelli of Uhh Yeah Dude.  Trevis and I went to see said live show, and I have to say I disagree, save THAT ONE GUY.*

*This asterick is important so I am s'plaining it here.  Right before the show started, THAT GUY walked in hootin' and a hollerin' quips and frequently said sayings from the podcast.  For his sake I hope he was wasted, but irregardless it lasted all show, and made for a very anxious audience.  At one point Jonathan said "calm down" or something but he didn't really get it.  Thank you to the HUGE guy behind him who finally scared him a enough to slow down the noise.

Or I DID disagree, until I just listened to the 9:30 live show, and it's funny cause it's true.

Seth, Jonathan and Kelly at a Country Western Saloon in the Green room before the 7:30 show.

Of course I am talking about the hugely popular Uhh Yeah Dude Podcast.   Hosted/Produced/Written/Directed by Best Friends Jonathan Larroquette and Seth Romatelli, the show is about 5 years running, once a week for an hour.  Self described as, "A weekly roundup of America through the eyes of two American Americans" (which happily makes perfect sense to me), I was introduced to the show through Trevis.  As you should know, Trevis ain't usually the one breakin' any pop culture news over here** so I must give credit where credit is due.

I was able to chat with Jonathan and Seth quickly before the show.  I brought Trevis to play a regular Boy Friday but we had a few bumps.***

ANYWAY

Originally I had facebooked Jonathan (Seth is allergic to technology) to ask if I could interview them before/after/during the show.   I also said I could be easily passed off to a press contact to which he replied, "hahahaha press contact."

Swoon.

Here is what I gleaned from my (all to short) interview (see ***):

-Seth has intense hair.  Although I did not ask his hairspiration, the best I can describe is Rockabilly.
-Jonathan also has intense hair.  The best I can describe is long and messy.  He also repeatedly
alternates betwixt piling it in a knot on his head and down.
-Seth looks MARKEDLY more like Johnathan's father - John Larroquette (many-time emmy winner     and best known**** as playboy Dan Fielding on Night Court).

RIGHT?
No, they are not related.

But these two are.  That's Jonathan.

I broached the lookalike subject with S&J and was gifted with a video that validates my assumption.  Seth, in fact, played a young John in a pilot entitled, "Corsairs." Die.  For proof (and by proof I mean a wet shirtless Seth) visit Seth's Corner and click on "Corsairs Pilot, Flashback."  I couldn't get an embed link, but it is worth the trip.

But I digress:

Kevin Smith?? and Faye Dunaway

- Seth and Jonathan met at a video store (obviously - much like a Kevin Smith flick) called Rocket.  Seth was working and Jonathan was taking in however many videos are necessary to becomes friends with the guy at the video store and well, the rest is history.  Apparently though the location has changed, Rocket still exists (see above).  Also according the website, Faye Dunaway is a huge fan.

"Rocket Video is the unsung underground film salon
where one goes to hang out and rap with great
filmmakers. Rocket is the coolest. It has everything,
classic and modern."
                                           ~ Faye Dunaway

Sounds like the plot to a "cult favorite" type film.  No?

- Jonathan is more comfortable in front of a room full of strangers than Seth, although not by much.
- Jonathan has as small a bladder as I do.
- Both were a little nervous before the 7:30 show (third live show ever) which I find totally acceptable.

WHAT IS MY POINT?

I am captivated by funny people.  Not comedians per say, just people I find funny.  Seth and Jonathan are these two of these people.  Their entire show is based on reading and discussing the headlines of the week.   The rapidpacewithwhich they interject their opinions/ thoughts/sounds/deep breaths into their discussions can only be born from a long history and too much time spent in a video store.  I get the impression that it would be possible for them to say less out loud, as they seem to be sharing the same brain.  However, the beauty of their banter is that they don't give in to their inside jokes, just let enough out for us to be jealous of the seemingly perfect comedic timing, understanding of each other and ability to articulate what you are thinking monumentally better than you could yourself.

My favorite authors are Augusten Burroughs, David Sedaris, Chuck Klosterman, David Cross and the like.  If you enjoy and understand their humor (and this blog), welcome to your new obsession. Without a doubt these two are at the tipping point of their careers, with agents/producers/directors all being in the audience for their 3rd ever live show, I can only imagine what their careers have in store.

Podcasts are hard to commit to.  I know.  As I told Seth, I can only listen in the car because otherwise I can't sit still.  If you are ADD prone, I suggest this method.  It is well worth the time it takes to download from itunes, even a little more.  :)

No doubt the 9:30 show was a bit smoother, but I blame THAT GUY and that Jonathan really had to use the loo.

Episode 240 is up now, take a listen.  I will also keep the link up on the right side of my blog and remind you when the newest episodes are posted (each Monday usually).

Trust.

KOB

**We saw Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps this weekend.  Trevis was not aware of the original.  Dreadlocks take a lot of time and energy.
***For example: He decided that the interview should be cut short 'cause he felt like the guys were fidgeting AND he took 2 pictures when anyone knows you need at least ten to get one winner.
****At least to me
